Quilt Chatter March 2011
Volume 23 Issue 3
From Our President…
Ladies,
Thanks again to Nancy Pleimann for a wonderful program last month. You are one
remarkable lady!!! It's an honor to have you in our guild.
As you can tell Sally and Lynnore have lots more in stock for us this year. And
Mary Green will soon be sharing our workshop plans with us. If you haven't ever
participated in a workshop, please consider one this year. I did my first one
last year and not only do you learn something new, but you have that friendship
with others to share.
As I'm writing this, I'm in Florida and their azealas are blooming and that
gives me hope that Missouri will be experiencing bud and blooms soon.
Keep your eyes open in March for leprechauns who could lead you to your 'pot of
gold'. But then we already have at least one pot, don't we? I know everyone
reading this has a stash of fabric, at least one sewing machine, quilting
books/patterns, rulers, gadgets, and of course, our beloved rotary cutter.
Wonder who's idea that was...bring your answer to next month's meeting and you
might win a packet of blades!
Don't forget also in your pot is your talent of sewing. Please share this talent
with others throughout the year!
Vickie Howard, President
P.S. Starting a countdown from March 1, I'll have 54 days until retirement and
ALL of us will have 57 days until the Paducah Quilt Show.

March Program: The March meeting will be held at the Church of Christ on the corner of South West End Blvd. and Bloomfield Rd. This is our birthday party so come ready to have fun. The fat quarter for March is “green” but no St. Patrick’s Day fabric. We will play a game called “Left, Right, Center. It is a lot of fun and several people will go home with treasures. Participants need to bring 3 items to play: one should be a fat quarter; the other two can be anything you want but would also like to receive if you are the winner. Examples: sewing notions, a favorite book you’d like to pass on, sweet treats, piece of fruit, etc.
Simply a Dollar, Dollar Tree, Target (that $1.00 section near the front has nifty little items) or maybe something you have made. Be creative!!!
Fat Quarter
Bring a green (no novelty prints please) fat quarter to the March meeting and you can win them all. (This is separate from the game fat quarter.)
Hexagon Project:
Vonda Slinkard and Lynnore Meyer are using the Hexagon kits to put together as a project for the Auction at our Quilt Show in 2012. Nancy Pleimann found a blog that has a page and information on making Hexagons. The reason for the dot is to punch a hole in the center. I like the way she punches a hole in the center to put your pin. If you do not have the 110 weight paper, contact Nancy Pleimann who will print a page for you and bring it to the March meeting.
Blog with directions
Page to print hexagons:
Change the size to 0.78 and check the Add Dot box. Use 110 paper (card stock) to print your hexagons. This size will match the kit.
Or just download a pre-sized page of hexagons.
BLOCK OF THE MONTH: Make a table runner, apron, or other items from a free
pattern from
Robert Kaufman
RETREAT NEWS: Don't forget to mark your calendar for the retreat! The dates are March 9 (Wed) through March 12 (Sat)...we will all leave for home before 11:00 a.m. March 13 (Sun). Contact Vonda Slinkard or one of the housemothers if you want to go. We will be celebrating our 15th Birthday year at Retreat and special T-shirts will be available for purchase...orders (size, etc.) will be taken at the January and February meetings. Vickie Howard has a spot open in her cabin for the Retreat, please contact her, if you are interested!
