Happy
New Year Quilters,
There we were, 25 strong, along with one guest and one new
member. The February meeting was lightly
attended due to the weather, but those of us that were there were treated to a
wonderful trunk show of antique quilts given by Lyn Stoecker. There were several ladies that brought their
own antique quilts to show and a beautiful quilt book was won by Mary Green for
her participation.
The program at the library the
following Saturday went well, too. Many
thanks to Vonda Slinkard, Joycelyn Kasten, Cindy Spaeth, Cheral Benthal and Sue
Tippitt for helping out. Sue is visiting
our guild from the mountains in Tennessee.
Very nice of her to jump in and help.
The program was on hand quilting and there were 12-15 ladies in
attendance. It was a fun morning and the
library was very pleased with what we had to offer.
I, personally, am loving all of
our snow. As I write this it is snowing
lightly one more time. I haven’t heard
any forecast, but it doesn’t matter. One
of the joys of being retired, don’t have to go anywhere or do anything, so the
weather is not a factor. We have been
“iced out” of delivering Senior Meals once this year. I must confess I haven’t gotten a lot of
sewing or quilting done. I want to
finish binding a quilt today so I will have some show and tell in March. Speaking of March, it will be our birthday
month as RHQG celebrates its 21st birthday.
We will have pins to award for membership and a very special program
that you won’t want to miss. Bring a
guest that is a breast cancer survivor.
We will also take a love collection to donate to breast cancer.
Our guild retreat is right around
the corner. I am certainly looking
forward to five days, spent with my wonderful quilting friends. Lynnore has a great retreat planned for us. Check with your house mother if you have any
questions or call Lynnore.
If you haven’t been down to the
Arts Council to see our exhibit, you need to get down there. It is a wonderful exhibit and the hit of the
month, if I do say so myself!!! Thanks
to Lynne Taylor for getting us into this and getting it all set up.
Take time to enjoy the
weather. There is not a thing we can do
about it. Keep quilting.
Madeline
March Program: This is
one you will DEFINITELY NOT want to miss.........Judy Humphrey will share with us an extraordinary, unique trunk
show which features 50 "items" that were submitted for a challenge at
her St. Louis Quilt Guild. The challenge
was done to raise awareness of breast cancer and has been on display at St.
Luke's Hospital Cancer Resource Center, Chesterfield. Please bring a friend/cancer survivor to
enjoy this one-of-a-kind trunk show. We will be taking a "special
collection" for breast cancer research so come prepared!
Fat Quarter
Bring a PINK fat quarter to the
March meeting and you will be entered to win a basket of Fat Quarters.
Coming in April
Our
guest speaker will be Connie Ewbank, author from Louisiana, who will be holding a workshop Sunday
afternoon, 4/11 (Jumble Fever: a 9-patch variation) and Monday morning, 4/12
(String Star). She will be sharing her techniques, books and a trunk show during the guild's April meeting. . . more specific
info to be shared at the March meeting.

RETREAT: I think we are just about ready to pack up
and go on the retreat. I hope you are
all as excited as I am. The response has
been great—we added two cabins and they are full. In the past some of you have gone to a quilt
show in Eddyville. It has been cancelled
for this year. I did receive an E-mail
from one of the ladies we met last year that was from another quilt group who
was also on a retreat and she has opened a fabric shop in Murray, Ky. You can go to her website to see if you want
to visit her shop www.batiksbydesign.com.
I also have directions to get there if anyone is interested. Saturday evening at 7:00 we will meet in the
lodge for snacks, Show and Tell, and our spectacular Fashion Show. I hope all of you are working on a unique
outfit for someone in your cabin to model.
Should be fun and laughter.
Don’t forget to bring fabric and stuffing for cancer pillows and angel
quilts. Any questions regarding the
retreat please call (334-8991) or E-mail (rlm642@charter.net) me. Lynnore Meyer (Retreat Chairman)
If you have any questions, please contact

RHQG FEBRUARY MEETING
The RHQG meeting was called to
order by President Madeline Gieselman on February 8, 2010, at the Cape
Girardeau Public Library.
Minutes for January were approved
as printed in the newsletter by Elizabeth Brewer and seconded by Nyra Campbell.
Executive Board retreat was
reported as extremely successful with very positive input and exciting plans
for the upcoming year. The balanced budget was presented at the meeting as
decided at retreat. Questions were asked
and the motion to accept the budget was made by Mary Tripp , second by Mary
Peters, and members present voted to
accept.
This Saturday ( Feb. 13) there
will be a demonstration at the Public Library on handquilting. It will be from 10 am until noon.
The Cashbook Journal in Jackson
will have a report on our display at the Arts Council Exhibit in the next
edition. Please be sure to make a trip
to downtown Cape to see this lovely exhibit.
Thanks to all who participated.

displayed.
Several members also had Vintage
and Historical quilts to display.
Show and Tell: 5 displayers
Carolyn Tilghman, Chris Ludwig,
Anastasia Gonzales, Lois Emerine, and Priscilla Kirby.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
